About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, this role procures, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients. The technician maintains an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies, re-orders and stocks items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability. They maintain competency and follow departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products. The role involves operating, troubleshooting, monitoring, and cleaning departmental automation and equipment, and ensuring pharmacist product verification and facilitating timely medication distribution. Accurate record-keeping and patient profile maintenance, including charging and crediting, are essential. The technician responds to customer needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests. They understand and implement time management and prioritization of tasks to ensure timely and safe patient care. This role also assists with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards. Regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including product integrity and expiration, are conducted. The technician maintains competency and follows departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines for handling, preparing, distributing, and disposing of hazardous and non-hazardous products. Participation in professional activities and organizations is encouraged to stay current with trends and practices. All required training and competency assessments are completed in a timely fashion, and educational in-services are attended as appropriate. Assistance with the orientation and training of new personnel may be required, and the technician may serve as a resource for less experienced staff. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred.
  • 6 months experience as Pharmacy Technician or completion of ASHP-accredited tech training program preferred.
  • Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
  • Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.
