Pharmacy Technician - Oncology and Infusion
About The Position
Join Trinity Health Of New England’s Pharmacy team supporting safe, accurate, and timely medication distribution for Oncology and Infusion therapy patients. Pharmacy Technicians assist pharmacists with processing medication orders, preparing medications, managing inventory, and ensuring patients receive needed medications. Tier III technicians may also prepare sterile IV medications and chemotherapy products under pharmacist supervision. The role supports inpatient care areas by preparing and distributing medications, maintaining automated dispensing cabinets and pharmacy inventory, delivering medications and supplies, and keeping accurate records. Technicians collaborate with healthcare professionals and follow hospital, pharmacy, and regulatory policies to support medication safety and patient care. Trinity Health Of New England is collaborating with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to strengthen and expand regional cancer care. The relationship combines Dana-Farber’s oncology expertise with locally led care, providing access to clinical specialists, tumor boards, educational resources, and best practices. The organizations aim to build an integrated oncology program focused on clinical excellence and patient outcomes.
Requirements
- At least 6 months of sterile IV compounding and chemotherapy preparation experience.
- Current Pharmacy Technician registration/licensure or Pharmacy Intern license.
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB).
- Ability to perform frequent standing, walking, and physical activity in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in hospital, inpatient, infusion, or retail pharmacy settings.
- Knowledge of pharmacy automation systems, medication distribution, and sterile compounding.
Responsibilities
- Accurately prepare, package, and distribute medications for inpatient care areas.
- Refill and maintain automated dispensing cabinets (Pyxis), including medication loading, inventory management, and troubleshooting.
- Process and prioritize medication orders, including urgent STAT requests.
- Prepare sterile IV admixtures and chemotherapy medications using aseptic technique (Tier III).
- Deliver medications and supplies to nursing units and patient care areas.
- Maintain medication inventory, stock pharmacy work areas, and assist with receiving and storing drug orders.
- Conduct medication storage inspections and support regulatory compliance initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records related to medication use, inventory, and charges.
- Collaborate with pharmacists, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to support patient care.
- Follow hospital, pharmacy, and regulatory policies to ensure medication safety and operational excellence.
