Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, this role procures, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients. The technician maintains an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies, re-ordering and stocking items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability. They maintain competency and follow departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products. The role involves operating, troubleshooting, monitoring, and cleaning departmental automation and equipment, and ensuring Pharmacist product verification and timely distribution of medications. Accurate record-keeping, patient profile maintenance, and responding to customer needs are key responsibilities. The technician must understand and implement appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks to ensure timely and safe patient care. They also assist with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping and department cleaning to maintain the work area. Regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including product integrity and expiration, are conducted. The role requires maintaining competency and following departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines for handling hazardous and non-hazardous products. Participation in professional activities, completing required training, and attending educational in-services are expected. The technician may assist in the orientation and training of new personnel and serve as a resource for less experienced staff. Other duties may be assigned.
