About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, this role procures, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients. The technician maintains an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies, re-ordering and stocking items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability. They maintain competency and follow departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products. The role involves operating, troubleshooting, monitoring, and cleaning departmental automation and equipment, and ensuring pharmacist product verification and timely distribution of medications. Accurate record-keeping, patient profile maintenance, and responding to customer needs via phone are also key responsibilities. The technician must understand and implement appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks for timely and safe patient care. They assist with operational support functions, including housekeeping and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards. Regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including product integrity and expiration, are conducted. The role also requires maintaining competency and following departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines for handling hazardous and non-hazardous products. Participation in professional activities, completing required training and competency assessments, and attending educational in-services are expected. The technician may serve as a resource for new personnel, providing technical information and guidance. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred.
6 months experience as Pharmacy Technician or completion of ASHP-accredited tech training program preferred.
Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.

Responsibilities

Ensures Pharmacist product verification and facilitates timely medication distribution.
Maintains accurate records and patient profiles, including charging and crediting.
Responds to customer needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests.
Implements appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks for timely and safe patient care.
Assists with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating.
Conducts regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including product integrity and expiration.
Safely and accurately handles, prepares, distributes, and disposes of hazardous and non-hazardous products following departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines.
Participates in professional activities to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
Completes all required training and competency assessments in a timely fashion.
Attends educational in-services as appropriate.
Assists in the orientation and training of new personnel.
May serve as a resource for less experienced staff, providing technical information and guidance.
May perform other duties as assigned or requested.
