About the Facility – Texas Veteran's Affairs Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy (CMOP) The CMOP utilizes a combination of automated and manual procedures to prepare and dispense Over-The-Counter and legend drug prescriptions, controlled substance prescriptions, bulk type prescriptions, and medical/surgical products directly by mail to patients. The nature of services includes the operation and support of automated and manual filling equipment, and the preparation of prescription orders for mail-out dispensing. Requirements

  • Shall hold a current valid certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT).
  • Non-certified technicians must have 6 months of experience in a retail pharmacy setting; or be a graduate of an Academic Technician Training Educational Program.
  • Must be able to understand how to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate.

Nice To Haves

  • Not all pharmacy technicians will be required to be certified or registered; however, certification is highly encouraged as several processes and certain equipment will require certified technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense medications and maintain related records for patients.
  • Prepare, package, label and distribute medication doses prescribed by physician.
  • Maintain inventories of drugs and supplies, stocking shelves, rotating stock, and checking expiration date of pharmaceuticals.
  • Fill/stock medications in various automated devices and storage locations.
  • Operate various types of pharmacy automation, including, but not limited to, Autofill devices; Baker Cells, Kalish cells, A-frames; repackaging equipment; electronic scales.
  • Read computer screens, use scanning equipment, select specific drugs/products required to fill an order by name, strength, and National Drug Code (NDC) number.
  • Cleans cells and performs first level preventative maintenance which includes cleaning off lights, vacuuming, and making minor adjustments to equipment.
  • Understand the precautions required when handling hazardous materials and hazardous waste.
