About The Position

Kindred Hospital South Florida – Ft. Lauderdale and Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) offers extended recovery care with 53 long-term acute care hospital beds, including an eight-bed Intensive Care Unit, providing 24-hour clinical care. The 11-bed ARU is designed for patients recovering from acute injury, impairment, or illness. The Pharmacy Technician, under the direct supervision of the Manager/Director of Pharmacy or a Registered Pharmacist, dispenses IV and irrigating solutions, mixes IV additive solutions using aseptic technique, prepares labels, and performs related duties according to established procedures.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent.
State Certification/Licensure if required by state.
Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital pharmacy setting.
Basic understanding of the role of and use of a computer in the processing of prescription orders with minimum word processing skills.
The ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with clinical staff.
Self-motivated, self-directed with excellent organizational skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Good math and science skills.
Good stress coping skills.
Must read, write and speak fluent English.
Must have good and regular attendance.

Nice To Haves

1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital pharmacy setting preferred.

Responsibilities

Assists Pharmacist to prepare and dispense medication.
Mixes pharmaceutical preparations, fills bottles with prescribed tablets and capsules, and prepares labels for bottles.
Fills orders with correct medications. Prepares unit of use dosage when possible.
Processes records of medication and equipment dispensed to patient, computes charges, and enters data in computer.
Prepares intravenous (IV) packs.
Generates required reports; pick i.v., production reports. Performs backup procedures correctly.
Recycles product as appropriate. Changes prep and expiration date on recycled product.
Dates times and initials all vials for reuse.
Prioritizes work (i.e. stats made first). Delivers IVS to proper locations. Restocks shelves and rotates stock. Properly disposes of non-recyclable solutions. Maintains i.v. refrigerator temperature log.
Receives and stores incoming supplies.
Counts stock and enters data in computer to maintain inventory records.
Returns medications to stock and rotates stock. Fills requisitions from Nursing floors in a timely fashion.
Can calculate appropriate medication doses based on patient’s age Adult and Geriatrics.
Cleans equipment and sterilizes glassware according to prescribed methods.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
