About The Position

Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital is a 305-bed teaching facility with Level II trauma status. This role is a casual/PRN position. The Pharmacy Technician will fill medication orders including oral, injectable, and topical medications, and intravenous admixtures. They will also assist in the bulk manufacturing of special pharmaceutical products, and prepare and distribute floor stock items. The technician will maintain inventory, restock shelves, check for outdated drugs, and enter charges and credits into the computer for all dispensed medications and IV solutions. They will document all medications and IV solutions returned to the Pharmacy and distribute prepared medications to patient care areas and/or other departments. Record keeping functions, answering the telephone, and assisting at the Pharmacy window are also part of the role. The technician may rotate within hospital and out-patient pharmacy service areas as required and must maintain the work area in a safe, orderly manner, following appropriate clean room (797) guidelines for intravenous admixture preparation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma program or GED.
  • Experience with sterile compounding and/or 6 months technician experience and/or graduate of an ASHP accredited technician training program.

Responsibilities

  • Fills medication orders including oral, injectable and topical medications and intravenous admixtures.
  • Assists in the bulk manufacturing of special pharmaceutical products.
  • Prepares and distributes floor stock items in response to requisition forms.
  • Inventories and restocks shelves in immediate work area, checks for outdated drugs.
  • Enters charges and credits into the computer for all medications and IV admixtures dispensed from the Pharmacy, documents all medications and IV solutions returned to the Pharmacy.
  • Distributes prepared medications to patient care areas and/or other departments of the Hospital.
  • Performs necessary record keeping functions.
  • Answers telephone and assists at Pharmacy window.
  • May rotate within hospital and out-patient pharmacy service areas as required.
  • Maintains the work area in a safe, orderly manner.
  • Follows appropriate clean room (797) guidelines in the preparation of intravenous admixtures.
