About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician will provide medical services to Adults in Custody (AIC) referred to by the Health Services Department. Services rendered should be professional in nature and consistent with community standards of care. The Pharmacy Technician shall adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations during the performance of duties. This role involves providing pharmacy support services within a federal correctional healthcare setting in accordance with Federal Bureau of Prisons healthcare standards, American Correctional Association core standards, and applicable federal and state regulations. The technician will assist the Pharmacist in the preparation, dispensing, and management of medications for the inmate population at FCI/FDC Tallahassee.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • National Background Check with Inquiries, Fingerprints, and Drug Screen.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of pharmacy technician experience required.
  • Must possess Florida State Pharmacy Technician certification
  • Current CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pharmacy support services within a federal correctional healthcare setting in accordance with Federal Bureau of Prisons healthcare standards, American Correctional Association core standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Assist the Pharmacist in the preparation, dispensing, and management of medications for the inmate population at FCI/FDC Tallahassee.
  • Interpret medical and dental prescription orders from providers and electronic health records.
  • Enter prescriptions into the pharmacy computer system and generate accurate medication labels.
  • Select, prepare, and fill prescriptions under pharmacist supervision.
  • Assist in daily medication distribution, including pill line operations and direct medication dispensing as directed.
  • Maintain accurate inmate medication profiles and ensure timely updates in the pharmacy system and electronic medical record.
  • Inventory medications and supplies, monitor stock levels, and communicate ordering needs to the Chief Pharmacist and Health Services Administrator.
  • Ensure proper storage of medications, including refrigeration and protection from heat, light, and humidity per manufacturer requirements.
  • Maintain pharmacy cleanliness and sanitation standards in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Communicate with inmates regarding medication use and provide basic education on medication instructions and side effects when appropriate.
  • Assist pharmacy and medical staff with preparation of daily prescriptions and support overall medication distribution workflow within the facility.
  • Address medication-related questions or concerns with the Chief Pharmacist.
  • Ensure proper handling, packaging, and storage of medications and supplies in compliance with institutional policies.
  • Perform duties that may require prolonged standing, stair climbing, and occasional heavy lifting in a secure correctional healthcare environment.
