About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician provides distributive pharmacy services and support for the registered pharmacist, including medication preparation, dispensing support, inventory control, and related clerical tasks. The position reports to the Director or Manager of the Department.

The technician serves patients from neonates through older adults and may access demographic, clinical, insurance, financial, and complete medical record information. The role may involve occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens and biological materials, as well as occasional chemical exposure.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Registration with the state Board of Pharmacy.
• PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technician.
• Critical thinking and decisive judgment.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision in stressful environments.
• Ability to quickly learn and navigate multiple clinical software systems.
• Effective English communication skills, including reading, writing, speaking, and understanding.
• Frequent standing, walking, sitting, keyboard entry, reaching, and repetitive hand/arm movements; occasional kneeling and squatting; and light to moderate non-patient lifting, pushing, and pulling as needed.
• Regular exposure to biological materials and occasional chemical exposure; occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens may be present.

Responsibilities

• Refill and maintain automated dispensing systems.
• Fill medication carts daily.
• Prepare orders and maintain pharmacy inventory.
• Repackage bulk medications as needed.
• Compound sterile and hazardous products according to established procedures.
• Manage drug inventory, including purchases, returns, restocking, stock rotation, backorders, recalls, shortages, and loan/borrow processes.
• Participate in performance improvement activities and required education.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.
