About The Position

Under general supervision, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting the Pharmacist to provide safe and effective delivery of medications to patients based on medical providers' orders and prescriptions. This role adheres to pharmacy policies and procedures set by Family and Children's Services and governing entities such as the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, Federal Drug Administration, and Drug Enforcement Agency. The Pharmacy Technician rotates among 10 different stations within the pharmacy, with the primary responsibility of assisting the Pharmacist. Key skills include attention to detail, communication, problem-solving, providing excellent customer service, effective time management, and being an integral part of the clients' care team.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or have HS equivalent.
  • Satisfactorily completed a pharmacy technician on-the-job training program described by OSBP.
  • Ability to work with the public.
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with agency personnel.
  • Ability to maintain a professional manner at all times.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to document activities, write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from colleagues, clients, and the general public.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with colleagues, clients, clients’ families, public, and third-party payer personnel.
  • Be of good moral character.
  • Must be able to meet the requirements for a Pharmacy Technician permit in the State of Oklahoma.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Pharmacist in providing safe and effective delivery of medications.
  • Rotate among 10 different stations within the pharmacy.
  • Communicate effectively with nursing staff regarding prior authorizations and quantity limit overrides.
  • Fill out and send appropriate paperwork and follow up on incomplete requests.
  • Answer phone in a timely manner with a friendly tone, addressing customer concerns while maintaining workflow.
  • Make appropriate patient profile and prescription notes regarding prescription issues.
  • Proactively call clients about prescription delays (e.g., ordering, PA's).
  • Respond to Teams chats among agency employees in a timely manner.
  • Provide frequent updates to the team regarding client care to avoid prescription processing delays.
  • Refer patients appropriately to the PAP team for assistance.
  • Assist with delivery preparation, communicating with clients via phone and preparing accurate delivery lists.
  • Call clients to alert them of medication delays due to PA or ordering needs.
  • Notify the Pharmacist of all Drug Utilization Reviews and counseling opportunities.
  • Resolve insurance rejections to ensure appropriate billing of prescriptions.
  • Use critical thinking to enhance client access to medications.
  • Utilize all available resources to fix problems before asking for help.
  • Anticipate potential problems and notify the supervisor before issues arise.
  • Enter data accurately and efficiently from new prescriptions (electronic, fax, handwritten, transferred).
  • Ensure correct drug selection from the shelf and appropriate quantity dispensing under pharmacist supervision.
  • Search for and correctly enter appropriate insurance information.
  • Complete routine file maintenance when refilling or entering a new patient into pharmacy software.
  • Complete assigned work on time without continual reminders.
  • Stay on task at the assigned station and multitask effectively.
  • Meet deadlines for daily, weekly, or monthly projects.
  • Maintain productivity during slower workflow periods.
  • Attend work regularly, schedule PTO appropriately, and avoid tardiness and unscheduled absences.
  • Maintain a positive attitude while working with others.
  • Give and receive constructive feedback appropriately.
  • Assist pharmacists and coworkers to ensure fast, efficient service.
  • Engage clients at pharmacy input in a welcoming, friendly manner.
  • Maintain good rapport with co-workers, patient care personnel, clients, and others.
  • Maintain strict cleanliness standards.
  • Routinely check and process all voice mail prescriptions.
  • Verify patient names on prescription bottle labels against prescription receipt names when bagging prescriptions.
  • Assist with client questions and concerns.
  • Use professional judgment to determine when to involve pharmacists and other supervisors in de-escalation situations.
