About The Position

The Compounding Technician is responsible for staging and preparing all components for drug production in a clean-room environment. Technicians may also engage in compounding low to high-risk sterile products and filling patient orders, as authorized and under the supervision of the compounding pharmacist.

Requirements

Must be registered with the State Board of Pharmacy.
Strong aseptic technique and hand-eye coordination.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
Ability to work quickly and accurately under time and volume constraints.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of hormones and other potentially hazardous chemicals used in non-sterile compounding.
Proficient in using a computer and related equipment, including printers and fax machines.
Effective communication skills via telephone and email.
20/20 vision (with or without corrective aids) required for visual inspection of drug products, in accordance with legal requirements.

Responsibilities

Knowledge of and adherence to applicable Standard Operating Procedures.
Compounding of capsules, liquids, topical medications, nasal preparations, suppositories, troches, or tablet triturates.
Compounding may include sterile to sterile transfers, packaging, and labeling of one or more drugs.
Filling and labeling prescriptions and pre-packaging bulk compounded medications.
Monitoring inventory levels for re-order of low inventory or expiring or expired chemicals or compounds.
Receiving new inventory, maintaining MSDS and Certificates of Analysis.
Performing daily, weekly and monthly cleaning using appropriate disinfectants and techniques.
Familiarity with the location of MSDS and reviewing them as needed when working with hazardous or non-hazardous chemicals.
Performing environmental monitoring and validation testing according to policies and procedures.
Supporting daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of the environment with appropriate disinfectants and techniques.
Successfully completing initial and ongoing competency evaluations as required.
Working under the supervision of a pharmacist.
Other duties, responsibilities and qualifications may be required and/or assigned as necessary.
