About The Position

The Compounding Technician is responsible for staging and preparing all components for drug production in a clean-room environment. Technicians may also engage in compounding low to high-risk sterile products and filling patient orders, as authorized and under the supervision of the compounding pharmacist.

Requirements

  • Must be registered with the State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Strong aseptic technique and hand-eye coordination.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under time and volume constraints.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of hormones and other potentially hazardous chemicals used in non-sterile compounding.
  • Proficient in using a computer and related equipment, including printers and fax machines.
  • Effective communication skills via telephone and email.
  • 20/20 vision (with or without corrective aids) required for visual inspection of drug products, in accordance with legal requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of and adherence to applicable Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Compounding of capsules, liquids, topical medications, nasal preparations, suppositories, troches, or tablet triturates.
  • Compounding may include sterile to sterile transfers, packaging, and labeling of one or more drugs.
  • Filling and labeling prescriptions and pre-packaging bulk compounded medications.
  • Monitoring inventory levels for re-order of low inventory or expiring or expired chemicals or compounds.
  • Receiving new inventory, maintaining MSDS and Certificates of Analysis.
  • Performing daily, weekly and monthly cleaning using appropriate disinfectants and techniques.
  • Familiarity with the location of MSDS and reviewing them as needed when working with hazardous or non-hazardous chemicals.
  • Performing environmental monitoring and validation testing according to policies and procedures.
  • Supporting daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of the environment with appropriate disinfectants and techniques.
  • Successfully completing initial and ongoing competency evaluations as required.
  • Working under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Other duties, responsibilities and qualifications may be required and/or assigned as necessary.
