About The Position

Under the general supervision and work direction of the staff pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician performs pharmacy-related functions in compliance with departmental policies and procedures that provide optimal pharmaceutical care. This role involves delivering medications, stocking automated dispensing cabinets, performing aseptic compounding, processing requisitions, handling controlled substances, providing assistance to pharmacists, restocking various trays and kits, packaging bulk medications, and performing miscellaneous duties in accordance with hospital and department guidelines. The position also includes supplemental responsibilities such as assisting other technicians, answering telephones, managing multiple priorities, assisting in training, adhering to dress code, and projecting a professional image.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Current valid State of Indiana Pharmacy Technician license
  • Current national certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board
  • At least 1 year of hospital-based pharmacy experience
  • Maintains qualifications as outlined in the Pharmacy Department Technician Ladder appropriate for a Technician II position.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers medications from the pharmacy to nursing units and returns items from units to the pharmacy.
  • Participates in the maintenance and stocking of unit-based automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Performs aseptic compounding of parenteral admixtures and other sterile dosage forms.
  • Processes floor stock/requisitions for nursing units and ancillary areas.
  • Handles controlled substances appropriately, including preparation of proof-of-use sheets, returns, and waste/disposition.
  • Provides general assistance to the pharmacist staff, including order entry, pulling medications, labeling, and answering phone calls.
  • Restocks anesthesia automated dispensing cabinets and other trays and kits.
  • Receives and stocks wholesaler orders, rotating stock and checking invoices.
  • Correctly and accurately packages bulk medications and maintains controlled substance logs.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties and follows hospital and department guidelines and policies/procedures.
  • Performs basic tasks of other technician staff during low staff periods.
  • Answers the telephone promptly and professionally, referring calls as necessary.
  • Manages multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Assists in training new employees and students as requested.
  • Wears appropriate professional clothing adhering to the Hendricks Regional Health dress code.
  • Knows and follows hospital and departmental procedures.
  • Projects a professional image for the department.
