Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician procures, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients. This role involves hazardous compounding, handling, and delivery, specifically for the Tower Pharmacy. The position operates on a 7 on/7 off schedule, working Wednesday through Tuesday from 1pm to 11:30pm. The technician will maintain an established inventory of drugs and supplies, re-order and stock items, and ensure immediate availability. They must maintain competency and follow departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products, and properly operate, troubleshoot, monitor, and clean departmental automation and equipment. Ensuring pharmacist product verification and facilitating timely medication distribution are key responsibilities. The role also includes maintaining accurate records and patient profiles, responding to customer needs, managing time effectively, and assisting with operational support functions like housekeeping and department cleaning to maintain work area standards. Regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including product integrity and expiration, are necessary. The technician must follow departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines for handling hazardous and non-hazardous products. Participation in professional activities, completing required training and competency assessments, and attending educational in-services are expected. The technician may also assist in orienting and training new personnel and serve as a resource for less experienced staff. Other duties may be assigned.
