About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting the Pharmacist in the preparation, dispensing, tracking, and distribution of prescription medications under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist. This position supports pharmacy operations by ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with applicable federal, state, and Tribal regulations while maintaining a high standard of patient care within the Tribal health system.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of standard pharmacy practices, procedures, and terminology.
  • Understanding of prescription processing, labeling, and medication preparation.
  • Familiarity with drug names (generic and brand), dosage forms, strengths, and routes of administration.
  • Ability to operate effectively within a Tribal health system and maintain cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in medication handling and recordkeeping.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards and Tribal health policies.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills when interacting with patients and healthcare providers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, general computer applications and pharmacy management systems.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Must possess a current registration as a Pharmacy Technician issued by the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy or National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT).
  • Must possess a valid Nevada Driver’s License.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries from patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers, directing questions appropriately and providing administrative support to the pharmacy.
  • Prepare prescription labels and medication containers; assist in identifying prescriptions for patients, verifying patient identity, and returning unclaimed medications to stock in accordance with policy.
  • Accurately identify and retrieve oral, topical, and parenteral drug products from pharmacy inventory.
  • Count tablets and capsules; measure liquid medications; weigh topical preparations; and perform proper reconstitution of powders for oral suspensions under pharmacist supervision.
  • Assist with inventory management including ordering, receiving, labeling, stocking, and maintaining appropriate medication and supply levels.
  • Maintain pharmacy inventory by monitoring stock levels, anticipating medication needs, placing and expediting orders, verifying receipts, and preparing expired or outdated medications for pharmacist review and disposal.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized pharmacy environment in compliance with established procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Adhere to infection control policies and protocols to protect patients, staff, and the community.
  • Organize medications for pharmacist review and dispensing by reading prescriptions, preparing labels, calculating quantities, and assisting with preparation of intravenous solutions and other therapies as authorized.
  • Process billing for patient prescriptions, including insurance claims submission and troubleshooting unpaid or rejected claims.
  • Ensure medication availability by coordinating and delivering medications to patients as directed.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in electronic health records (EHR) and pharmacy systems.
  • Contribute to overall team effectiveness by performing related duties as assigned.
