About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, this role procures, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients. The technician maintains an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies, re-ordering and stocking items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability. They maintain competency and follow departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products. The role involves operating, troubleshooting, monitoring, and cleaning departmental automation and equipment, and ensuring pharmacist product verification and timely distribution of medications to maintain product integrity. Accurate record-keeping and patient profile maintenance, including charging and crediting, are essential. The technician responds to customer needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests appropriately. They understand and implement time management and prioritization of tasks to ensure timely and safe patient care. Operational support functions, including minor housekeeping activities and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards, are also part of the role. Regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including product integrity and expiration, are conducted. The technician maintains competency and follows departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines for handling hazardous and non-hazardous products. Participation in professional activities and organizations is encouraged to stay knowledgeable of current trends and practices. Completion of all required training and competency assessments, as well as attending educational in-services, is expected. The role may involve assisting in the orientation and training of new personnel and serving as a resource for less experienced staff, providing technical information and guidance. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred.
  • 6 months experience as Pharmacy Technician or completion of ASHP-accredited tech training program preferred.
  • Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
  • Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.
