About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for performing and supporting the daily operations of the Pharmacy Department. This role involves preparing prescriptions for pharmacist verification, processing electronic and new prescriptions, managing patient data in the Pharmacy Practice Management System, and handling various administrative and operational tasks within the pharmacy.

Requirements

  • Possess work-related skills at a higher level than completion of high school, including formal written and verbal communications skills, computational and computer skills, mathematical, and technical skills.
  • Have proof of completion of high school with a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 or completion of General Educational Development (GED) with a minimum overall score of 162.5, and health care related knowledge frequently acquired through completion of a trade school, para-professional, or certificate type program.
  • If an individual has completed a degree at a higher level than required by the role and had a stronger GPA in that program, they may provide proof of GPA from that degree in lieu of the high school diploma.
  • Have two years of experience and knowledge of pharmacy processes and practices, typically learned on the job or successful completion of a pharmacy externship with Family HealthCare Network.
  • Ability to prepare more complex documents in Microsoft Word, including creating tables, charts, graphs and other elements.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel to review and compile data, including the use of formulas, functions, lookup tables and other standard spreadsheet elements.
  • Ability to create basic presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Licensed in the state of California as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Job duties require the compilation of information prepared in effective written form, including correspondence, reports, articles or other documentation.
  • Effectively convey technical information to non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare prescriptions for Pharmacist’s final verification.
  • Receive E-script orders from providers and new prescriptions from patients.
  • Verify patient specific information and enter/review data into the Pharmacy Practice Management System.
  • Process labels for new and refill prescriptions.
  • Contact prescribers to obtain approval or denial of refills and document refill orders.
  • Select appropriate product from stock by comparing National Drug Code (NDC); count, measure, and pour medication into vials or containers.
  • Verify all information on the prescription label against the original prescription, initial the label, and affix it to the vial or container.
  • Present hard copy prescription, finished package, patient receipt, monograph, and stock container for final pharmacist review.
  • Place filled and reviewed prescriptions on shelves for patient pick up.
  • Complete and process third-party documents and transmissions, authorizations, and Treatment Authorization Requests (TAR).
  • Periodically check and process phone or fax messages.
  • Maintain clean and organized Pharmacy work areas.
  • File paperwork and prescriptions under the supervision of the Pharmacist-in-charge (PIC).
  • Operate cash register during patient prescription pick up, process cash and credit card transactions, and obtain patient signatures for insurance log documentation.
  • Inform the Pharmacist of any warning or Drug Utilization Review (DUR) screen appearing during label processing, or prescriptions requiring pharmacist consultation with the patient.
  • Keep the Pharmacist informed of departmental policies and procedures and progress.
  • Monitor prescriptions in the wait area.
  • Check fill dates and run will call reports.
  • Remove all prescriptions over seven days old or as instructed by the PIC.
  • Return pulled medications to stock.
  • Reverse orders online.
  • Deliver medications and prescriptions to other sites and maintain accurate delivery logs.
  • Monitor medication stock levels as directed by the pharmacist.
  • Process incoming medication orders.
  • Compare items shipped to items ordered on invoice.
  • Affix price stickers.
  • Place items on shelves or in the refrigerator.
  • Check stock expiration dates monthly and rotate or remove items.
  • Return outdated/expired, damaged, overstock, and recalled merchandise for credit and proper disposal.
  • Assist the PIC with inventory processes.
  • Adhere to the Attendance and Absenteeism Policy.
  • Present to and work at any FHCN location based on business need.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
