About The Position

CVS Health Pharmacy Technicians support pharmacy operations and service excellence in retail locations. They help ensure prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately; assist patients and customers as an initial point of contact; and contribute to a caring, inclusive experience. Technicians follow company standard operating procedures, pharmacy workflow practices, and applicable laws and policies while working with the pharmacy team. After starting, they must complete the company training program and meet applicable state registration, licensing, and certification requirements. Duties may be restricted by the Pharmacy Manager until those requirements are completed.

The role may include supporting immunizations and other patient health services where permitted by law and supported by required training and certification. Pharmacy Technicians who obtain Technician Immunizer status may help prepare and administer vaccines, educate patients about vaccines, refer clinical questions to the Pharmacist-on-duty, monitor and report adverse reactions, document patient information, and manage vaccine supplies.

Requirements

• Meet applicable state Board of Pharmacy requirements and laws governing pharmacy practice, including requirements concerning age, education, and licensure or certification.
• If state pharmacy requirements do not specify a minimum age, be at least 16 years old.
• If state pharmacy requirements do not specify a minimum education requirement, have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school or a high school equivalency program.
• Meet state-level licensure and national certification requirements applicable to the role.
• Demonstrate attention and focus, including sustained concentration, the ability to pivot between tasks, and the ability to confirm prescription information and label accuracy.
• Provide friendly customer service, recognize patients’ reactions, and respond appropriately; work effectively as part of a team.
• Use and understand verbal and written communication with patients and colleagues, including active listening.
• Use mathematical reasoning to calculate prescription quantities and days’ supply.
• Identify challenging patient or colleague interactions and select an appropriate course of action.
• Meet the physical demands of the role, including remaining mobile and upright for extended periods; lifting, scanning, and bagging items; reaching, stretching, and stooping; repetitive finger and hand movements; precise machine adjustments; and close visual acuity.
• Occasionally lift or exert up to 20 pounds, frequently lift or exert up to 10 pounds, and consistently move objects using negligible force.
• Communicate detailed or important spoken instructions accurately and receive detailed information through oral communication.

Nice To Haves

• One to three years of previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
• Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
• Ability to work in the home store and at other market locations to meet business needs.

Responsibilities

• Follow company standard operating procedures at each workstation to support pharmacists in managing and improving patient health.
• Follow pharmacy workflow procedures in production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off to fulfill prescriptions safely and accurately.
• Provide empathetic, personalized service to patients at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone; offer immunizations and other services; and resolve or escalate patient problems.
• Complete basic inventory activities as permitted by law and directed by pharmacy leadership, including putting away medication deliveries, cycle counts, returns-to-stock, and waiting-bin inventories.
• Contribute to a high-performing team, receive feedback, and seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge.
• Remain flexible to scheduling and business needs and travel voluntarily to other stores in the market for shifts as needed.
• Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, ethical principles, and CVS policies and procedures, including requirements for patient safety, controlled substances, recordkeeping, privacy, and security.
• Deliver additional patient health care services, such as immunizations and point-of-care testing, and voluntarily staff offsite clinics where permitted and appropriately trained and certified.
• When supporting immunizations, complete required licensure and training; educate patients about vaccines and refer vaccination questions to the Pharmacist-on-duty; monitor and respond to adverse reactions and report events; collect, track, and document patient information; and monitor and manage vaccine supplies.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends, and complete required training within the designated timeframe.
• Assist with additional tasks as directed by a Supervisor or Manager.
