About The Position

Pharmacy Technicians perform routine, manipulative and supportive tasks as allowed by New York State Law under the close supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required.
Must have completed an acceptable Technician training program or have equivalent experience.
After training, should demonstrate knowledge of competencies in sterile technique, unit dose distribution, packaging, unit inspections, brand and generic names, pharmacy calculations, and material management persons.
Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.

Nice To Haves

Experience in a hospital pharmacy is highly desired and experience in community pharmacy is helpful; however, neither is required.
Possession of a certificate indicating the successful completion of a Pharmacy Technician Training Program is preferred.
The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board is the preferred certifying agency.

Responsibilities

Package bulk medications into unit dose form using appropriate packaging equipment.
Take inventory, request restock of medication and supplies.
Reconcile medication orders against invoices, unpack stock, fill-in stock in storage areas and refill automated dispensing machines.
Fill floor stock requisitions from various hospital locations and deliver supplies as needed including external hospital locations.
Check dispensing areas for expiration of medications and remove from shelf and other dispensing areas.
Assist Pharmacist in filling patient/customer prescriptions.
Answer phone, handle request within authority and scope of job limits, prepare sterile products and follow protocol to compound drugs and dosage forms that are needed for patient care.
Maintain work areas in a clean, neat and orderly and safe manner.
Performs related assigned responsibilities as requested.
