About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, this role procures, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients. The technician maintains an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies, re-orders and stocks items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability. They maintain competency and follow departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products. The role involves operating, troubleshooting, monitoring, and cleaning departmental automation and equipment, and ensuring Pharmacist product verification and facilitating the timely and appropriate distribution of medications to maintain product integrity. Accurate records and patient profiles, including charging and crediting, are maintained. The technician responds timely to customer needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests appropriately. They understand and implement appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks ensuring timely and safe patient care. Assistance is provided with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping activities and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards to maintain the work area. Regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements are conducted, including the examination of product integrity and expiration. Competency is maintained and departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines are followed to safely and accurately handle, prepare, distribute, and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous products. Participation in professional activities and organizations is encouraged to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. All required training and competency assessments are completed in a timely fashion, and educational in-services are attended as appropriate. Assistance is provided in the orientation and training of new personnel. The technician may serve as a resource for less experienced staff, providing technical information and guidance in pharmacy techniques and policies to ensure the delivery of efficient, quality service. Other duties may be assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred.
  • 6 months experience as Pharmacy Technician or completion of ASHP-accredited tech training program preferred.
  • Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
  • Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.
