About The Position

Banner Health is seeking an innovative and highly trained Pharmacy Technician to join their Pharmacy team. This role is crucial in ensuring the best patient care. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will perform medication packaging, distribution, compounding, and record-keeping under the supervision of a pharmacist. You will also support customers, maintain a compliant cleanroom, and assist with staff training, all while providing safe and age-appropriate care. This position is part of an overnight schedule, working Thursday through Wednesday from 8:00 PM to 6:30 AM, with a 7-day on and 7-day off rotation, including holidays. A hire-on incentive of up to $2,500 is available. Additionally, you will receive a flat rate of $1/hour for weekend shifts and an 18% night shift differential when applicable. Requirements

  • Requires Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification OR Pharmacy Intern licensure in the state of practice.
  • Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.

  • Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
  • An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs medication packaging, distribution, non-sterile compounding, and record-keeping under pharmacist supervision.
  • Supports customers and maintains a compliant cleanroom.
  • Assists with staff training.
  • Identifies medications and other items for reorder to maintain inventory.
  • Receives, checks-in, and restocks medications, verifying quantities against invoices.
  • Assesses ways to deal with shorted, short-dated, or unusable items.
  • Manages users within the automated dispensing technology database and investigates discrepancies.
  • Troubleshoots malfunctions in automated dispensing technology.
  • Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.
  • Responds to standard requests from internal customers.
  • Interacts with department personnel, cross-department personnel, internal customers, patients, and physicians.
  • May use automated dispensing technology or requisitions to restock medications to nursing and ancillary areas after pharmacist check.
  • May restock automated dispensing technology using barcode scanning verification devices when permitted by law and policy.
  • Restocks medications to all areas outside automated dispensing technology, including trays, code carts, and emergency boxes.
  • Compounds non-sterile medication products following product worksheets/recipes and USP compounding guidelines.
  • Performs calibrations of equipment and accurately measures components for compounding.
  • Repackages bulk medications into unit of use packaging.
  • Completes accurate documentation of medications compounded and repackaged.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with policies, laws, and regulations.
  • Performs quality control activities such as monthly nursing unit inspections and pharmacy section checks.
  • Completes documentation of refrigerator temperatures and equipment maintenance.
  • Handles narcotic medications following all federal and legal requirements.
  • Understands regulatory requirements for receiving, compounding, repackaging, and distribution of controlled substances.
  • Adheres to storage and inventory movement documentation requirements for controlled substances.
  • Performs compounding and labeling of intravenous non-hazardous compounds using proper sterile and aseptic technique.
  • Understands different product lines in sterile populations (adult, pediatric, and neonate).
  • Completes all required environmental cleaning procedures.
  • Documents all required tasks and other information per policy.
