About The Position

Walgreens Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Technician Apprentices work in a patient-centric pharmacy environment, interacting with customers and developing patient relationships. The position assists pharmacists under direct supervision and in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies. Technicians use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions, while supporting pharmacy operations and delivering a distinctive customer experience. Walgreens provides an “earn while you learn” Pharmacy Technician Training Program recognized by ASHP and the Department of Labor. The program provides courses, learning activities, resources, and on-the-job experience to develop foundational and advanced pharmacy technician skills and help participants work toward PTCB certification. Technicians are expected to earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated program and/or any state-required certification or registration, or earn PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.

Requirements

Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Nice To Haves

Six months of experience in a retail environment.
Prior work experience with Walgreens.
Good math skills for accurately counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
Good computer skills.
Knowledge of store inventory control.
PTCB certification.

Responsibilities

Assist pharmacists under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy and perform other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with regulations and company policies.
Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions accurately.
When PTCB certified, assist with and coach pharmacy technicians in pharmacy systems and cashiers in pharmacy register operations.
Greet and assist customers and patients, resolve customer issues, answer questions, and model customer service best practices.
Develop strong relationships with valuable customers.
Enter patient and drug information, retrieve and count medications, fill prescriptions, verify medication accuracy, and check for possible interactions.
Assist pharmacists with scheduling and maintaining workflow.
Immediately report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and follow company error-reporting and Quality Improvement Program policies.
Follow the company's Good Faith Dispensing policy during applicable prescription dispensing activities.
Register related sales on the assigned cash register and collect and handle cash as required; help customers locate over-the-counter products when possible.
Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's personal attention, including calls to physicians.
Correct and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims promptly and perform assigned clerical duties.
Support inventory management by ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments, and file claims for shipment overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged prescription drugs.
May assist pharmacists with clinical services, including collecting and properly labeling patient blood or urine samples, and coordinate clinical services with pharmacy staff, Walgreens healthcare clinics, and external providers.
Help maintain relationships with local medical professionals and organizations through provider outreach and detailing.
Keep the Pharmacy Department stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
Comply with company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
Complete special assignments and other assigned tasks.
Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state-required certification or registration, or earn PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
Attend manager-requested training, acquire continuing education credits, and maintain current healthcare and pharmacy knowledge.
