The Pharmacy Technician I, under direct supervision, performs a variety of technical and clerical tasks to ensure efficient pharmacy operations. Responsibilities include filling prescriptions, maintaining inventory, and assisting the pharmacy team with daily tasks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must obtain a Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) within one year of hire.
  • Association-accredited course in Basic Life Support (BLS) (for clinical staff), or Heartsaver CPR AED (for nonclinical staff), and renewal on a regular basis, with up to a three-month grace period after the expiration date.
  • Basic understanding of pharmacy operations and terminology.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in using computers and pharmacy software systems.
  • Little to no prior pharmacy experience required; training and mentorship will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with filling medication orders and automated dispensing cabinet refills by selecting the proper drug.
  • Perform medication histories with patients for pharmacist review.
  • Restock pharmacy inventory, including both bulk and unit dose medications.
  • Deliver medications to various units within the healthcare facility.
  • Review medication orders and coordinate with healthcare staff to resolve discrepancies.
  • Provide customer service to patients and healthcare professionals at the pharmacy counter.
  • Perform inspections of medication storage areas and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Repackage drugs as needed for patient-specific doses.
  • Participate in the receipt and storage of pharmaceutical shipments.
  • Assist in the preparation of floor stock orders and inventory control.
  • Scan and put away medications in designated areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the pharmacy work area.
  • Use the pharmacy computer system to input and retrieve data accurately.
  • Participate in training sessions and actively seek opportunities for skill development.
  • Adhere to all pharmacy laws, regulations, and guidelines to ensure patient safety.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
