About The Position

QUALIFICATIONS: National certification required. Valid Texas state pharmacy technician registration. High school diploma or graduate equivalent degree. One year’s pharmacy experience required Hospital pharmacy experience preferred OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE: Category I exposure to bloodborne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards. ______________________________________________________________________________   RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Answers the telephone and assists with responses to inquiries 2. Orders items requested by other hospital departments and delivers items when received 3. Receives and processes requests by other departments 4. Monitors all recalled items via wholesaler report and documents all activities 5. Assists with all areas of the drug distribution system, including procuring stock, rotating stock, filling and maintaining automated dispensing units and managing expired drugs 6. Gathers items needed for miscellaneous requisitions, orders, crash carts, etc. to be checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing 7. Delivers checked medications to the nursing units 8. Prepackages and labels medications into unit doses from bulk supply 9. Teaches and assist nursing and anesthesia personnel in regard to proper ADU procedures 10. Maintains ADU in all aspects, customizing as needed to assure safe and efficient medication usage 11. Reports all needed repairs for ADU to appropriate company and verify repairs are completed 12. Manages charges and credits in computer system 13. Reports on unusual occurrences to the pharmacist 14. Reorders pharmacy supplies from approved vendors 15. Maintains pharmacy in a clean and organized fashion 16. Verifies and documents daily refrigerator and freezer temperature within correct range 17. Documents inspection of all patient care areas monthly and reviews report with area charge nurse 18. Maintains monthly expense report in Excel format 19. Assists with chart audit as directed 20. Performs pharmacy inventory count quarterly, or as directed 21. Maintains pharmacy inventory at a minimal level 22. Maintains professional and ethical standards by complying with laws and regulations related to pharmacy practice, using good professional judgement and exhibiting reliability and credibility 23. Demonstrates empathy for patients and coworkers 24. Trains new employees, as assigned 25. Maintains confidentiality and patient privacy standards set by the department as well as the hospital 26. Maintain a good working relationship with all levels of staff 27. Documents inspection of all patient care areas monthly and reviews report with area charge nurse 28. Coordination of mental and dexterity for sustained periods of time 29. Must be able to concentrate and pay close attention to detail 30. The ability to hear and communicate with others in a clear, understandable and professional manner on the phone and in person 31. Participation in hospital committees as needed 32. Effective organizational and interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication skills 33.
