About The Position

The inpatient pharmacy technician supports pharmacists in providing pharmacy services. The technician is responsible for packaging, preparation, and distribution of medications, inventory control, customer service and maintaining pharmacy records. As a Pharmacy Technician – Neurology at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, you will support one of the highest-volume inpatient pharmacies, serving diverse service lines including general inpatient care, sterile products, the operating room, pediatrics, and mainly the growing neurology specialty. In this role, you will collaborate closely with pharmacists, pharmacy leadership, fellow technicians, and the broader patient care team, including physicians, nurses, and support staff. You will help ensure safe and timely medication distribution through accurate preparation, delivery, inventory management, and use of systems such as EPIC, Pyxis, carousel, and MAR messaging. Caregivers in this role work days, evenings, or nights and receive training in controlled substances, sterile and non-sterile compounding, oncology support, triage, and phone-based coordination, making this a dynamic opportunity to build advanced inpatient pharmacy skills. A caregiver in this position works variable shifts, including 6:45am–3:15pm or 2:00pm–10:30pm, and works every third weekend.

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED
Six months of related experience OR completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program
Upon hire, you must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA).
Upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee
Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months
Understanding of algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds

Nice To Haves

Six months of inpatient hospital and IV Sterile Compounding experience.

Responsibilities

Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
