Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Able to perform arithmetic calculations including fractions, decimals, multiplication and division

Nice To Haves

  • National certification by PTCB or NHA preferred
  • Valid New York State Pharmacy Technician Registration preferred
  • Two years pharmacy and computer experience preferred
  • Relevant health care related experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Process “missing dose” and continuous infusion next bag requests.
  • Process morning (24hr) patient specific distribution.
  • Deliver IVMB to patient specific bins/organize so bags are removed by time.
  • Review refrigerated medications daily for outdates and short dated medications.
  • Perform quarterly wipe-down of medication refrigerator interior on assigned units.
  • Utilize census to move medications appropriately for Admissions, Discharges and Transfers.
  • Empty tubes/deliver to Pyxis/Medroom/RN (stat and urgent doses).
  • Return extra tubes to system.
  • Act as a liaison to pharmacy for missing doses/medication related issues.
  • Monitor patient own meds and assure proper handling.
  • Maintain neat and tidy med rooms, including refrigerators on the units covered.
  • Assist with Pyxis drawer failures, alert patient care services to discrepancies, and load medications.
  • Appropriately handle incoming phone calls.
  • Maintain adequate levels of drugs and supplies for assigned area (floor stock par levels, vaccines, etc).
  • Maintain an adequate level of emergency drug boxes.
  • Complete daily check of narcotic lock boxes on assigned nursing units.
  • Perform monthly narcotic inventory in Pyxis cabinets of assigned nursing units.
  • Assist with Transport Kit/Emergency Kit logs.
  • Process daily reports accurately and in a timely manner.
