Under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician assists in filling prescriptions and preparing IV admixtures by interpreting, transcribing, and preparing medication(s) for dispensing. They fill orders with appropriate medications for review and approval by a Registered Pharmacist and perform a variety of related technical, clerical, and supply duties. The specific duties may vary depending on the work location (e.g., outpatient retail pharmacy, inpatient hospital pharmacy, infusion pharmacy) or shift assignment. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. This role is part of a professional career pathway, with Pharmacy Technician II and III building upon the skills and competencies of the preceding levels.
