About The Position

Wellstar is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to join their team in Lagrange, GA. This role involves preparing, compounding, and dispensing medications under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist. The ideal candidate will be proficient in all responsibilities and duties of a certified pharmacy technician and demonstrate competency through supervised observation and annual required competencies. Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Registered Pharmacy Tech Cert
  • Pharmacy Tech Cert
  • Licensed and in good standing with the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy
  • Hospital pharmacy experience (preferred)
  • General experience in all phases of pharmacy operations including basic knowledge of automated dispensing cabinets, inventory management, medication order interpretation, and Ga. Pharmacy law
  • Basic computer skills

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications and/or IVs for dispensing, ensuring correct medication, strength, and form, and labeling for pharmacist verification.
  • Fill multiple patient-specific medications in bulk according to department procedure.
  • Securely deliver bulk fills, first doses, and missing doses to appropriate units, maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Properly generate labels, fill, and have checked by a pharmacist for dispensing missing doses.
  • Properly prepare, measure, and count medications, including compounding ointments, creams, oral solutions, oral solids, and IVs.
  • Accurately add new users to the Automatic Dispensing Cabinet (ADC) system.
  • Properly load ADCs with correct medications after pharmacist check, monitor par levels, and adjust as needed.
  • Generate reports to fill, track, and identify/report discrepancies.
  • Troubleshoot minor problems with ADCs.
  • Accurately restock medications, fluids, and stock outs as needed.
  • Assist in retrieving recalled medications.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and applicable laws for controlled substance medications.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of aseptic technique, including proper hand washing and use of IV Room attire, and understand relevant policies.
  • Prepare small volume admixtures, specialty solutions (epidural, intrathecal, intravenous, intramuscular, sterile syringes, chemotherapy), and neonatal syringes.
  • Maintain clean room environment according to policies and procedures.
  • Follow all safety and compliance standards for compounding medications and ensure United States Pharmacopeia (USP) standards are met.
  • Accurately label all repackaged items per Georgia Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations.
  • Provide customer service to customers and other healthcare professionals.
  • Process charges such as late charges, supplemental, OR charges, nuclear, and exception reports.
  • Order supplies and obtain purchase orders using the appropriate ordering system.
  • Restock code carts and other kits returned to the pharmacy, ensuring required inspections are completed.
  • Perform monthly unit and pharmacy inspections, ensuring assigned areas are clean and monitoring temperature and humidity.
  • Track out-of-date medications in various facility locations.
  • Train and mentor pharmacy technicians under the lead pharmacy technician.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
