The Pharmacy Technician assists the Pharmacist in ensuring the safe dispensing of medications and record keeping. Acts as an advocate of Gunnison Valley Hospital (GVH) in their respective position and communities. Adheres to GVH Mission, Vision, Values and Motto of “The Patient is First in all We Do.” Essential duties include assisting the Pharmacist in the preparation and dispensing of medication, processing prescriptions in a safe, effective, and timely manner, and ensuring records are kept and maintained for medication, equipment, and invoices as directed by State, Federal, and Hospital policy. The technician verifies all medications and equipment information is entered into the computer/pharmacy software correctly to ensure patients are charged appropriately. They prepare medication packs and IV’s as needed, and process prescriptions by selecting the right medication, counting and filling bottles with correct medication that has been prescribed, and correctly labeling the bottle. The role also involves counting medication stock and entering data into the computer to maintain inventory records, correctly mixing and/or reconstituting pharmaceutical preparations as directed by the pharmacist, and cleaning equipment, work space, and sterilizing counting trays and glassware according to latest recommended guidelines or Hospital Policy. Further responsibilities include assisting in the daily cleaning of the pharmacy, assisting with special projects as directed by Pharmacist and/or Pharmacy Manager, and assisting in the creation and development of special programs such as collaborative practice agreements, health fairs, and flu shot clinics. The technician must maintain strict confidentiality regarding competitive advantage/strategic planning of all GVH projects, demonstrate a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm to create a team atmosphere, and perform other duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager, participating in specialty teams and GVH programs. They must demonstrate patience and tact when dealing with patients, family, and other staff members, conveying a sense of caring and dignity, and demonstrate a sense of responsibility and moral integrity, acting as a self-starter who works independently and consistently finds ways to improve their own job and hospital operations. The technician must embrace and exemplify GVH core values, mission, and vision, assume responsibility for knowing GVH policies, procedures, and expectations, comply with HIPPA, and complete all required Continuing Education, Relias, OSHA, BLS Trainings, annual TB questionnaire, and mandated vaccinations (Flu and COVID).
