About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, this role procures, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients. The technician will maintain an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies, re-ordering and stocking items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability. They will maintain competency and follow departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products, and properly operate, troubleshoot, monitor, and clean departmental automation and equipment. This role ensures Pharmacist product verification and facilitates the timely and appropriate distribution of medications to maintain product integrity. The technician will maintain accurate records and patient profiles including charging and crediting, and respond timely to customers' needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests appropriately. They will understand and implement appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks ensuring timely and safe patient care. Additionally, the technician will assist with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping activities and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards to maintain the work area. They will conduct regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including the examination of product integrity and expiration. The role also involves maintaining competency and following departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines to safely and accurately handle, prepare, distribute, and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous products. Participation in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments is expected, along with completing all required training and competency assessments in a timely fashion and attending educational in-services as appropriate. The technician will assist in the orientation and training of new personnel and may serve as a resource for less experienced staff, providing technical information and guidance in pharmacy techniques and policies to ensure the delivery of efficient, quality service. Other duties as assigned or requested may also be performed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred.
  • 6 months experience as Pharmacy Technician or completion of ASHP-accredited tech training program preferred.
  • Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
  • Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.
