About The Position

Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital, a 305-bed teaching facility with Level II trauma status, is seeking a part-time Pharmacy Technician (32 hours per week) with a rotating shift for its Outpatient Pharmacy. The role involves filling various types of medication orders, managing patient information in the pharmacy system, handling insurance claims, preparing and labeling prescriptions, and assisting customers at the counter and drive-through. Key responsibilities include updating and transmitting daily drug orders, processing orders from wholesalers, stocking shelves, monitoring for outdated drugs, logging controlled substances, and resolving invoice discrepancies. The technician will also distribute medications to patient care areas and other hospital departments, reconcile cash drawers, and perform other record-keeping duties. Additionally, the role may involve assisting in training new staff, providing IT support, and maintaining a safe and clean work environment. There is a possibility of rotating to other outpatient pharmacy sites or home delivery pharmacy as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma program or GED.
  • Experience with sterile compounding and/or 6 months technician experience and/or graduate of an ASHP accredited technician training program.
  • LIC-Pharmacy Technician - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required Or LIC-Pharmacist Intern - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required

Responsibilities

  • Fills medication orders including oral, injectable and topical medications and intravenous admixtures.
  • Enters patient demographics, insurance information and prescriptions into the pharmacy information system, prioritizing scripts for customers waiting.
  • Appropriately handles and reprocesses rejected claims.
  • Processes prescriptions, retrieves correct medication, fills and labels prescription and attaches any necessary notifications.
  • Files completed scripts in the patient pickup bins after pharmacist verification.
  • Answers telephone and assists customers at the lobby counter and Pharmacy drive-through window.
  • Updates and electronically transmits the daily drug order – monitors and documents/communicates special orders and shortages.
  • Processes daily drug order from wholesaler, stocks drug shelves, checks for outdated drugs, logs controlled drugs and files invoices.
  • Contacts supplier to resolve discrepancies on invoice.
  • Distributes prepared medications to patient care areas, patient bedside and/or other departments of the hospital.
  • Reconciles cash drawer twice daily (opening and closing) and documents per policy.
  • Performs other record keeping duties as required.
  • Assists in training of new staff and a resource for IT support personal.
  • Maintains work area in a safe and orderly manner.
  • Cleaning and dusting of work areas and shelves.
  • Disinfecting of high touch points such as counters, credit card devices, phones, counting utensils and signature pads.
  • May rotate to other outpatient pharmacy sites/home delivery pharmacy as needed.
