About The Position

Beloit Health System is looking to add a Pharmacy Technician to our Team! The Pharmacy Technician, under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, performs specific job responsibilities related to the procurement and distribution of medications, in the preparation of IV admixtures, in the preparation of IV chemotherapy preparations and functions as a key person in various ongoing pharmacy projects. Assists pharmacists by triaging phone calls and completing various other tasks as requested.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Wisconsin Pharmacy Technician licensure.
  • Adheres to established Health System and Pharmacy department policies, rules, and regulations

Nice To Haves

  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) recommended.
  • Previous Pharmacy hospital technician experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs scheduled and emergent Automated Dispensing Cabinet (ACD) restocks.
  • Bills and credits medications according to department guidelines.
  • Prepacks unit-dose medications.
  • Assures proper storage of drugs with consideration to stability, storage requirements and expiration.
  • Monitors the pharmacy inventory to ensure both adequate stock of all medications as well as working to decrease overall stock.
  • Works with the Inventory Coordinator and Director of Pharmacy to establish minimal but adequate PAR levels of supplies.
  • Inspects assigned floor stock areas and pharmacy storage areas monthly.
  • Routinely checks for outdates, impending expiration, and proper storage of medications.
  • Housekeeping duties as necessary to maintain orderliness in the department.
  • Assists with extemporaneous compounding of medications, including calculations and reference searches related to compounding for all age groups ranging from the neonatal to the geriatric patient.
  • Delivers medications to patient care areas.
  • Selects and delivers controlled substances, following department and regulatory procedures.
  • Fills and charges floor stock medication as needed.
  • Loads new medication items into the dispensing machine under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Prints reports and assists nursing with discrepancies for the automated dispensing machine.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform functions accurately and efficiently within computer software application.
  • Maintains ethical conduct and keeps confidential personal and medical information about patients.
