About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician performs technical and clerical pharmacy services that do not require licensure, assisting in the safe and accurate management of medications for the incarcerated patient population. Working under the supervision of a pharmacist and in coordination with nursing and providers, this role helps maintain pharmacy operations, inventories, and records in accordance with Thrive Medical Services policy and federal and state law.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Pharmacy Technician registration/certification in the State of New Mexico, as required by the Board of Pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy operations, medication labeling, and inventory practices.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and accuracy.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, secure correctional environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior correctional, hospital, or retail pharmacy technician experience.
  • Experience with electronic medical records or pharmacy management systems.
  • Familiarity with controlled-substance documentation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in preparing and packaging prescriptions and unit-dose medications.
  • Maintain accurate records and inventories of drugs, including controlled substances, per policy and law.
  • Stock and organize pharmaceutical supplies and ensure proper labeling and storage of medications.
  • Process medication orders and support timely medication delivery to housing units.
  • Conduct inventory counts and documentation of medications and controlled substances per policy and state law.
  • Assist in ordering medications using cost-effective measures and monitor expiration dating.
  • Support reconciliation and secure handling of medications, sharps, and supplies.
  • Follow Thrive Medical Services and facility safety and security policies, including disaster drills.
  • Adhere to regulations for handling keys, sharps, and controlled medications.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Comply with NCCHC standards, board of pharmacy requirements, and applicable laws and regulations.
