About The Position

Walgreens Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Technician Apprentices work in a patient-centric environment, interacting with customers and building patient relationships. Walgreens provides an earn-while-you-learn training program recognized by ASHP and the Department of Labor. The program offers courses, learning activities, resources, and on-the-job experience to build the knowledge and skills needed to become a certified pharmacy technician and earn a nationally recognized, portable credential. Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, the technician assists with pharmacy practice in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies. The role uses pharmacy systems to obtain patient and medication information and process prescriptions, supports pharmacy operations and inventory, and provides customer service. PTCB-certified technicians may also coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers in pharmacy systems and register operations.

Requirements

Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Nice To Haves

Six months of experience in a retail environment.
Prior work experience with Walgreens.
Good math skills for accurately counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
Good computer skills.
Knowledge of store inventory control.
PTCB certification.

Responsibilities

Engage customers and patients, greet them, offer assistance, resolve issues, answer questions, and provide a distinctive customer experience.
Build relationships with customers and model customer-service practices for team members.
Assist the pharmacist in pharmacy practice in accordance with state, federal, and company policies, and comply with the Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
Use pharmacy systems to enter and verify patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
Retrieve, count, and pour medications, verify that the medication is correct, and check for possible interactions.
Assist pharmacists with scheduling and maintaining workflow.
Immediately report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and follow company error-reporting and Quality Improvement Program procedures.
Follow the Good Faith Dispensing policy during applicable prescription-dispensing activities.
Register sales on the assigned cash register and collect and handle cash as required.
Help customers locate over-the-counter products when possible.
Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's personal attention, including calls to physicians.
Correct and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims promptly and efficiently, and perform other assigned clerical duties.
Support inventory management by ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
Apply asset-protection practices and file claims for pharmaceutical shipment overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods.
May assist with clinical services, including collecting and properly labeling blood or urine samples, and coordinate services with pharmacy staff, Walgreens healthcare clinics, and external providers.
Help maintain relationships with local medical providers and community organizations through provider outreach and detailing.
Maintain adequate supplies and keep the Pharmacy Department clean, neat, and orderly.
Comply with company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or required state certification or registration; otherwise, earn PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
Attend requested training, earn continuing education credits, and maintain knowledge of developments in healthcare and pharmacy.
