Walgreens Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Technician Apprentices work in a patient-centered pharmacy environment, interacting with customers and building patient relationships. Walgreens provides an earn-while-you-learn training program recognized by ASHP and the Department of Labor. The program offers foundational and advanced instruction, learning activities, resources, and on-the-job experience to prepare participants to become Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certified and maintain the skills needed in pharmacy care. The program is intended as an entry point to a healthcare career and provides a nationally recognized, portable credential. Under the pharmacist’s direct supervision and in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies, the technician assists with pharmacy practice and other Pharmacy Department duties. The role uses pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions, while providing helpful and courteous customer service. PTCB-certified technicians may also assist and coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers in pharmacy-system and register operations. The position also supports prescription processing, pharmacy workflow, cash-register transactions, inventory management, clerical tasks, and pharmacy upkeep. It may involve assisting with clinical services, coordinating with healthcare providers, and community outreach. Technicians complete assigned training, maintain required certification or registration, and keep their healthcare and pharmacy knowledge current.
