Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Pharmacy Technician Trainee License from the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy prior to start date; must obtain the required criminal records check by submitting fingerprints to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and FBI via a WebCheck provider located in Ohio to become licensed prior to starting.
  • Typing, interpersonal skills, and some computer knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • On-the-job completion of a comprehensive online training course with over 100 credit hours, a midterm exam, and a final exam.
  • Completion of the PTCE within the first 9 months of employment.
  • Communicate with pharmacists, physicians, nursing staff, and other pharmacy technicians to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.
  • Appropriately initiate billing functions such as debiting and crediting.
  • Provide guidance and training to new pharmacy staff as needed.
  • Perform nursing unit and medication storage audits assigned by pharmacy supervisor.
  • Fill and deliver medications in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Prepare sterile products following all necessary regulations and precautions including USP 797.
  • Repackage pharmaceuticals as needed.
  • Manage department and unit inventory by anticipating medication needs, placing medication orders, and managing outdated medications.
  • Pyxis activities include restocking, new loads, expiration date checking, inventory management, and troubleshooting as required.
  • Fill and deliver medication and physician orders in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the pharmacy director and pharmacy supervisor.
  • Assume all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
