Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Obtain Pharmacy Assistant license in the state in which the employee works if available or necessary
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Excellent knowledge of drug names desired with the expectation of continuing education on new drugs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop essential skills in medication preparation, inventory handling, and secure distribution.
  • Understand and uphold DEA, FDA, and state regulations related to controlled substances and medication storage.
  • Learn to identify potential variances in clinical practice to help prevent medication errors.
  • Assist licensed technicians with critical tasks, including controlled substance management and utilizing pharmacy automation.
  • Contribute to efficient medication delivery, triage calls, and support caregivers within your scope of practice.
  • Accurately recording prescription information and verbal refill authorizations.
  • Preparing prescription labels (verified by a pharmacist).
  • Reconstituting medications (with pharmacist oversight).
  • Precisely retrieving, counting and packaging medications.
  • Assisting with prepackaging drugs and preparing medications for hospital inpatient dispensing.
