Pharmacy Technician Trainee

A key aspect of this role is completing all required training to pass the PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam and become a Certified Pharmacy Technician.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Be enrolled in the URMC ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program (PTTP) or become certified through an alternate method within 180 days required
- PHAR-C - Certified Pharmacy Tech via the PTCB Certification Exam within 180 days required

- Previous work experience in health care preferred
Responsibilities
- Trains and participates in medication storage and inventory management activities, including stocking medication areas, rotating stock, checking expiration dates, and removing expiring medications.
- Trains and participates in customer service activities, including triaging phone calls, handling medication requests, deferring clinical decisions to a pharmacist, employing service recovery techniques, and maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Prepares for PTCB Certification by completing the Pharmacy Technician Training Program (PTTP), including didactic, simulation, and experiential training, computer-based learning modules, and assigned rotations.
- Trains and participates in medication delivery activities, including utilizing the pneumatic tube system and hand-delivering patient medications.
- Trains and participates in medication preparation activities, including preparing medication orders, obtaining correct medication, determining the number of doses, packaging medications, completing logs, and operating automated systems.
- Completes all required training and activities needed for preparation to take and pass the PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician.
- Other duties as assigned.
