About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor serves as a key member of the local pharmacy leadership team, working under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist Leader. This role provides visible, value-driven leadership that emphasizes best practices, prioritizes patient safety, and supports high-value care and optimal patient outcomes across Emory Healthcare. The supervisor oversees daily operations of pharmacy technician staff, including new hire orientation, onboarding, training, and cross-training. They are responsible for creating monthly schedules, managing staffing needs, and securing shift coverage. This position ensures regulatory compliance by maintaining current technician training and vaccination records, monitors time and attendance, and supports annual goal setting and performance evaluations. Eight to 10 hours per week are dedicated to administrative duties. The Supervisor is also expected to perform technician duties to support operations, including procuring, receiving, preparing, distributing, and disposing of medications and pharmaceutical supplies. They maintain an established inventory of drugs and supplies, re-order and stock items, and understand and implement appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks. The Supervisor works collaboratively with technicians and pharmacists to drive workflow and patient care improvements, provides organizational and technical support to less experienced technicians, and assists in training new personnel. They maintain competency and follow departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products, calibrate IV pumps and other equipment, and follow OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines for handling hazardous products. The Supervisor corrects discrepancies identified by the performance improvement process and monitors proper preparation of pharmaceuticals and compliance with departmental protocols.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent Required.
• At least five years experience or three years of related pharmacy experience as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
• Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the GA Board of Pharmacy.
• Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA required.
• Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.

Nice To Haves

• Associate or bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program preferred.
• Some supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversees daily operations of pharmacy technician staff, including new hire orientation, onboarding, training, and cross-training across all pharmacy areas.

• Ensures regulatory compliance by maintaining current technician training and vaccination records.
• Monitors time and attendance, ensuring accurate records and timely payroll submission.
• Supports annual goal setting, conducts mid-year and annual performance evaluations, handles disciplinary action as needed, and maintains documentation for direct reports.
• Performs technician duties to support operations, including procuring, receiving, preparing, distributing, and disposing of medications and pharmaceutical supplies.
• Maintains an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies; re-orders and stocks items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability.
• Understands and implements appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks ensuring timely and safe patient care.
• Works collaboratively with technicians and pharmacists to gather feedback and drive workflow and patient care improvements.
• Provides organizational and technical support to less experienced technicians and assists in training of new personnel.
• Maintains competency and follows departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products.
• Calibrates IV Pumps and other equipment as needed.
• Maintains competency and follows departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines to safely and accurately handle, prepare, distribute, and dispose of hazardous products.
• Corrects discrepancies identified by the performance improvement process.
• Monitors proper preparation of pharmaceuticals and compliance with departmental protocol and guidelines for pharmacy operations.
