About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician Specialist provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service while assisting the pharmacist in all legally permitted aspects of pharmacy operations. This role involves supervising and training other pharmacy personnel, acting as the pharmacy computer expert, and maintaining inventory control procedures. The specialist is also responsible for processing non-control drug orders, assisting with financial reporting, and serving as the third-party expert for the pharmacy.

Requirements

  • Meet all state laws and regulations.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical written data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Successfully completed company sponsored Technician Development Program I and II courses and passed examinations.
  • Successfully completed Pharmacy Profitability Course and passed the exam.
  • Successfully pass the technician specialist examination.
  • Minimum one year pharmacy experience.
  • At least a 4 rating on the most recent performance appraisal.
  • Ability to work in a pharmacy with a high volume of prescription activity.
  • Maintain continuing education requirements for technician certification.
  • Maintain Pharmacy Technician licensing requirements where required by law.
  • Ability to do simple addition, subtraction, copying figures, counting, and recording.
  • Ability to understand and follow written, verbal, or demonstrated instructions.
  • Ability to write identifying information.
  • Ability to request supplies orally or in writing.
  • Clarity of vision at a distance of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet with color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.

Responsibilities

  • Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer satisfaction by exhibiting care, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
  • Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, loading/unloading heavy items, and noting customer suggestions.
  • Answer customer questions appropriately and within legal limitations.
  • Assist Pharmacy Manager/Head Pharmacist in coordinating workflow and workstations to ensure adequate coverage and customer service levels.
  • Act as the pharmacy computer expert and primary trainer, monitoring computer usage and efficiency for other pharmacy support staff.
  • Perform and follow defined workflow procedures as legally allowable and be proficient with all workstations.
  • Maintain inventory control procedures, order product, assist with physical inventory, and review stock for recalled, outdated, or overstocked product.
  • Process non-control drug orders, including check-in when required.
  • Assist with weekly entries in the electronic pharmacy financial notebook, utilize economic reports, and be aware of competitive pricing.
  • Serve as the third-party expert, training and directing staff in all aspects of third-party plan administration, including claim research and collection procedures.
  • Ensure timely and accurate responses to all audit requests.
  • Advise management of training needs for pharmacy clerks and technicians.
  • Maintain strict adherence to company guidelines for personal hygiene and Department Appearance Standards.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, Safety and Sanitation regulations, and individual store guidelines.
  • Report to work when scheduled and on time.
  • Protect associates and customers by removing potential hazards or notifying appropriate personnel.
  • Return discarded non-pharmacy merchandise to its proper locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Pharmacy Management.
  • Regularly access and review all company communication and respond professionally.
  • Keep merchandise clean, stocked, and properly displayed in areas outside the pharmacy.
  • Participate in District and Divisional Training Programs for new technicians and pharmacists.
  • Participate in special projects and programs within the store, District, and Division.
  • Train, coach, guide, coordinate, and direct all pharmacy support personnel and Pharmacy Interns.
  • Educate Pharmacy Interns on the role of technicians.
  • Encourage or ensure technicians achieve certification status.
  • Provide informal feedback on daily performance and assist with performance appraisals.
  • Assist with the development of a schedule for pharmacy support staff.
  • Direct pharmacy support staff to provide quality customer service and set service standards.
