About The Position

This full-time position is responsible for completing medication histories, working out of Aurora Psychiatric Hospital (APH) and supporting admissions there, as well as remotely supporting other hospitals. The role operates on the 3rd shift, from 8:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., with a schedule of 7 days on and 7 days off. The Pharmacy Technician Specialist I is expected to adhere to standard processes, procedures, and policies, serving as an expert with specialized equipment and technology. They will troubleshoot technical issues, ensure accurate and timely documentation, and support communication with patients and the care team. The role also involves identifying quality improvement opportunities, contributing to operational changes, and participating in specialized work teams. Maintaining current knowledge in the specialized field, collaborating with leadership on best practices, and contributing to the education of others are key aspects of this position. The technician will also contribute to pharmacy department initiatives and accept tasks from other pharmacy roles when workload necessitates.

Requirements

  • Registration/Licensure with state board of pharmacy per state of employment requirements
  • Certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT) or National Health Career Association (ExCPT)
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in health care, insurance industry, pharmacy, or medical background
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Must be able to speak and be understood by others to communicate effectively
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Basic math skills
  • Organizational skills and analytical ability to prepare reports and reconcile reports correctly
  • Ability to evaluate and measure customer needs – set clear standards to ensure needs are met
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Self-discipline and attention to detail
  • Working PC knowledge including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook), Internet, and general Call Center Systems
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, bend, kneel, climb, twist, crawl and reach above shoulders.
  • Requires considerable walking, standing, pushing mobile cart of approximately 50 pounds and lifting 35 pounds of material.
  • Must have functional vision, touch and hearing
  • Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to perform job duties and minimize exposure to hazardous agents, body fluids, and communicable diseases.
  • Takes necessary precautions to avoid inadvertent needle sticks, minor cuts or bruises.
  • Exposed to various conditions throughout the workday such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs and changes in temperature and humidity.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job
