About The Position

Walgreens Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Technician Apprentices work in a patient-centric pharmacy environment, interacting with customers and building patient relationships. Walgreens provides an earn-while-you-learn training program recognized by ASHP and the Department of Labor. The program offers courses, learning activities, resources, and on-the-job experience to develop foundational and advanced pharmacy skills and prepare participants to pursue Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification. Under the pharmacist’s direct supervision, the role assists with pharmacy practice and other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies. The technician uses pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions, supports pharmacy operations and inventory activities, and delivers a distinctive customer experience. Training, certification, and continuing education are part of the position.

Requirements

Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.

Nice To Haves

Six months of experience in a retail environment.
Prior work experience with Walgreens.
Good math skills for accurately counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
Good computer skills.
Knowledge of store inventory control.
PTCB certification.

Responsibilities

Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy and in other Pharmacy Department duties, following state, federal, and company policies.
Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, enter information accurately, and process prescriptions.
Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring medications; verify the medicine and check for possible interactions.
Assist with pharmacy workflow scheduling and maintenance.
Immediately report prescription errors to the pharmacist and follow company error-handling policies and the Quality Improvement Program.
Follow the company’s Good Faith Dispensing policy during applicable prescription dispensing activities.
Register sales on the assigned cash register and collect and handle cash as required.
Help customers locate over-the-counter products when possible.
Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
Correct and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims promptly and efficiently, and perform assigned clerical duties.
Assist with inventory management, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments, and file claims for shipment overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged prescription drugs.
Assist the pharmacist with clinical services as required, including collecting and properly labeling patient blood or urine samples, and coordinate services with pharmacy staff, Walgreens healthcare clinics, and external providers.
Help maintain relationships with local medical professionals and healthcare organizations through provider outreach and related activities.
Keep the Pharmacy Department supplied, clean, neat, and orderly.
Comply with company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or required state certification or registration; otherwise, earn PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
Attend requested training, obtain continuing education credits, and maintain pharmacy and healthcare knowledge.
Engage customers and patients, offer assistance with products and services, resolve issues, and answer questions.
Model and share customer-service practices, including proactive assistance, identifying needs, and serving customers until satisfied.
Develop strong relationships with valuable customers.
