About The Position

Walgreens Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Technician Apprentices work in a patient-centric pharmacy environment, interacting with customers and building patient relationships. Walgreens provides an earn-while-you-learn training program recognized by ASHP and the Department of Labor. The program offers courses, learning activities, resources, and on-the-job experience to build foundational and advanced pharmacy skills and prepare participants for Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification. Under a pharmacist’s direct supervision, the role assists with pharmacy practice and other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations and company policies. The position uses pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions, while delivering a distinctive customer experience. The role also supports pharmacy operations, inventory management, clinical services, staff coordination, and continuing training.

Requirements

Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.

Nice To Haves

Six months of experience in a retail environment.
Prior work experience with Walgreens.
Good math skills for accurately counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
Good computer skills.
Knowledge of store inventory control.
PTCB certification.

Responsibilities

Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy and perform other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with regulations and company policies.
Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
Engage customers and patients, offer assistance, resolve issues, answer questions, and build relationships with valuable customers.
Model customer-service best practices and Walgreens service traits with team members.
Enter patient and drug information accurately, retrieve, count and pour medications, verify prescriptions, and check for possible interactions.
Assist pharmacists with scheduling and maintaining workflow.
Report prescription errors immediately and comply with pharmacy error policies and the Quality Improvement Program.
Follow the Good Faith Dispensing policy during applicable prescription dispensing activities.
Register sales, handle cash, and assist customers in locating over-the-counter products.
Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
Correct and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims promptly and perform assigned clerical duties.
Support inventory management by ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments, and file claims for shipment discrepancies or damaged prescription drugs.
Assist with clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood or urine samples when required, and coordinate services with pharmacy staff, Walgreens healthcare clinics, and external providers.
Help maintain relationships with local medical professionals and healthcare organizations through provider outreach and detailing.
Keep the Pharmacy Department stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
Comply with company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or required state certification or registration; otherwise, earn PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
Attend requested training, earn continuing education credits, and maintain current healthcare and pharmacy knowledge.
If PTCB certified, assist with and coach pharmacy technicians in operating pharmacy systems and cashiers in operating pharmacy cash registers.
