About The Position

Walgreens Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Technician Apprentices work in a patient-centric pharmacy environment, interacting with customers and building patient relationships. Walgreens provides an earn-while-you-learn training program recognized by ASHP and the Department of Labor. The program offers foundational and advanced learning, on-the-job experience, and preparation toward Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification. Under a pharmacist’s direct supervision and in accordance with applicable regulations and company policies, the role supports pharmacy operations, processes prescriptions using pharmacy systems, and delivers a positive customer experience. Training and continuing education are provided, and technicians are expected to earn and maintain required certification or registration.

Requirements

Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Nice To Haves

Six months of experience in a retail environment.
Prior work experience with Walgreens.
Good math skills for accurately counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
Good computer skills.
Knowledge of store inventory control.
PTCB certification.

Responsibilities

Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy and perform other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies.
Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions accurately.
Greet and assist customers and patients, resolve issues, answer questions, and build relationships with valuable customers.
Model customer service best practices and Walgreens service traits.
Enter patient and drug information; retrieve, count, and pour medications; verify prescriptions; and check for possible interactions.
Assist pharmacists with scheduling and maintaining workflow.
Immediately report prescription errors and follow company error-handling and Quality Improvement Program procedures.
Follow the company’s Good Faith Dispensing policy during applicable prescription dispensing activities.
Register sales on the assigned cash register and collect and handle cash as required; help customers locate over-the-counter products.
Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
Correct and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims promptly and perform assigned clerical duties.
Support inventory management by ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments, and file claims for shipment overages, shortages, errors, or damaged prescription drugs.
May assist the pharmacist with clinical services, including collecting and properly labeling blood or urine samples, and coordinating services with pharmacy staff, Walgreens healthcare clinics, and external providers.
Help maintain relationships with the local medical community through provider detailing and outreach to healthcare groups and care facilities.
Maintain the Pharmacy Department’s supplies, cleanliness, order, and appearance.
Comply with company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or obtain state-required certification or registration; otherwise, earn PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
Attend requested training, acquire continuing education credits, and maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy.
