About The Position

Walgreens Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Technician Apprentices work in a patient-centric environment, interacting with customers and developing patient relationships. Walgreens offers an “earn while you learn” Pharmacy Technician Training Program recognized by ASHP and the Department of Labor. The program provides courses, learning activities, resources, and on-the-job experience to prepare participants to become certified pharmacy technicians and earn a nationally recognized, portable credential. Under the pharmacist’s direct supervision, the technician assists in the practice of pharmacy and performs Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies. The role uses pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions, and delivers a distinctive customer experience. Technicians earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state-required certification or registration.

Requirements

Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Nice To Haves

Six months of experience in a retail environment.
Prior work experience with Walgreens.
Good math skills for accurately counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
Good computer skills.
Knowledge of store inventory control.
PTCB certification.

Responsibilities

Engage customers and patients by greeting them, offering assistance, resolving issues, and answering questions.
Model customer-service best practices and develop strong relationships with valuable customers.
Assist the pharmacist in pharmacy practice in accordance with state, federal, and company policies, and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
Use pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information accurately and process prescriptions.
Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring medications, verifying the medicine, and checking for possible interactions.
Assist pharmacists with scheduling and maintaining workflow.
Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and follow company error and Quality Improvement Program procedures.
Follow the Good Faith Dispensing policy during applicable prescription dispensing activities.
Register sales, collect and handle cash, and help customers locate over-the-counter products.
Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
Correct and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims promptly and perform assigned clerical duties.
Support inventory management by ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments; follow asset protection techniques and file claims for shipment discrepancies or damaged prescription drugs.
May assist the pharmacist with clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood or urine samples, and coordinate clinical services with pharmacy staff, Walgreens healthcare clinics, and external providers.
Help maintain relationships with local medical professionals and healthcare organizations through provider outreach and detailing.
Maintain adequate supplies and keep the Pharmacy Department clean, neat, and orderly.
Comply with company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state-required certification or registration; otherwise, earn PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
Attend training requested by the manager, acquire continuing education credits, and maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy.
