About The Position

Walgreens Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Technician Apprentices work in a patient-centric pharmacy environment, interacting with customers and building patient relationships. Under the pharmacist’s direct supervision, they assist in the practice of pharmacy and perform other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies. The role uses pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions, and helps deliver a distinctive customer experience.

Walgreens provides an “earn while you learn” Pharmacy Technician Training Program recognized by ASHP and the Department of Labor. The program offers courses, learning activities, resources, and on-the-job experience intended to develop foundational and advanced pharmacy knowledge and prepare participants for PTCB certification. Technicians must earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or meet state certification or registration requirements; otherwise, PTCB certification is a condition of promotion to senior technician.

Requirements

• Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
• Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state-required certification or registration; otherwise, PTCB certification is required for promotion to senior technician.

Nice To Haves

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Good math skills for accurately counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
• Good computer skills.
• Knowledge of store inventory control.
• PTCB certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist under supervision in the practice of pharmacy, following applicable state and federal regulations and company policies.
• Use pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, process prescriptions, and ensure information is entered correctly.
• Retrieve, count, and pour medications, verify medicines, and check for possible interactions.
• Assist pharmacists with scheduling and maintaining workflow.
• Immediately report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and follow company error and Quality Improvement Program procedures.
• Follow the company’s Good Faith Dispensing policy during applicable prescription dispensing activities.
• Register sales on the assigned cash register and collect and handle cash as required.
• Help customers locate over-the-counter products when possible.
• Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
• Correct and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims promptly and efficiently, and perform assigned clerical duties.
• Support pharmacy inventory management, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments; identify and file claims for shipment discrepancies or damaged prescription drugs.
• May assist the pharmacist with clinical services, including collecting and properly labeling patient blood or urine samples, and help coordinate services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
• Help maintain relationships with local medical professionals and healthcare organizations through provider outreach and detailing.
• Keep the Pharmacy Department stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
• Comply with company policies and procedures and maintain respectful coworker relationships.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
• Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or meet state certification or registration requirements.
• Attend training requested by the Manager, obtain continuing education credits, and maintain current healthcare and pharmacy knowledge.
• Greet customers and patients, offer assistance, resolve issues, answer questions, and model customer-service best practices.
• Develop strong relationships with valuable customers.
