About The Position
Walgreens Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Technician Apprentices work in a patient-centric pharmacy environment, interacting with customers and building patient relationships. Walgreens provides an earn-while-you-learn training program recognized by ASHP and the Department of Labor. The program offers courses, learning activities, resources, and on-the-job experience to develop foundational and advanced pharmacy skills and prepare participants to pursue Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification. The role assists pharmacists under direct supervision and in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies. It uses pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions, supports pharmacy operations, and delivers a positive customer experience.
Requirements
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Nice To Haves
- Six months of experience in a retail environment.
- Prior work experience with Walgreens.
- Good math skills for accurately counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
- Good computer skills.
- Knowledge of store inventory control.
- PTCB certification.
Responsibilities
- Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision and in accordance with state, federal, and company policies.
- Use pharmacy systems to enter and obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions accurately.
- If PTCB certified, assist with and coach pharmacy technicians in pharmacy systems and cashiers in pharmacy register operations.
- Engage customers and patients, offer help with products and services, resolve issues, answer questions, and build relationships with valuable customers.
- Model customer-service best practices and Walgreens service traits with team members.
- Perform assigned pharmacy duties, including retrieving, counting, and pouring medications, verifying medication accuracy, and checking for possible interactions.
- Assist pharmacists with scheduling and maintaining workflow.
- Report prescription errors promptly and follow company procedures and the Quality Improvement Program.
- Follow the Good Faith Dispensing policy during applicable prescription dispensing activities.
- Register sales on an assigned cash register and handle cash as required; help customers locate over-the-counter products when possible.
- Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
- Correct and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims promptly and perform assigned clerical duties.
- Support inventory management by ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments; follow asset-protection practices and file claims for shipment discrepancies or damaged prescription drugs.
- May assist with clinical services, including collecting and properly labeling patient blood or urine samples, and coordinate services with pharmacy staff, Walgreens healthcare clinics, and external providers.
- Help maintain relationships with local medical professionals and organizations through provider detailing and outreach.
- Keep the Pharmacy Department stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
- Comply with company policies and procedures and maintain respectful coworker relationships.
- Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
- Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state-required certification or registration; otherwise, earn PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
- Attend requested training, obtain continuing education credits, and maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy.
