About The Position

The inpatient pharmacy technician supports pharmacists in providing pharmacy services. The technician is responsible for packaging, preparation, and distribution of medications, inventory control, customer service and maintaining pharmacy records. This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $2500. The Pharmacy Technician – Operating Room supports high-volume inpatient pharmacy operations at Main Campus, collaborating closely with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, leadership, and other clinical caregivers. This role assists with medication preparation, distribution, and operational workflows, including medication deliveries across hospital units, carousel operations, triaging phone calls and MAR messages, and supporting medication access for surgical and inpatient care teams. Technicians rotate through various pharmacy areas to build broad inpatient experience and, after completing training and demonstrating competency, may have opportunities to transition into other specialized pharmacy areas such as IV services, ambulatory pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, or home care, depending on departmental needs. A caregiver in this position will rotate between day and evenings shifts Monday - Friday and rotate every 3rd weekend.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR the National HealthCareer Association (NHA)
  • Must hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
  • If certified but current status with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) is Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee it is required to update registration status to a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the OBOP within six months of hire.
  • A status as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with OBOP does not qualify for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
