About The Position

This role is eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $2,500. The Pharmacy Technician – Oncology supports a large inpatient infusion pharmacy located on campus in a building separate from the main hospital. This role compounds sterile preparations throughout the day while assisting with inventory management and ordering of medications and supplies. The technician collaborates closely with fellow pharmacy technicians, pharmacists and nursing staff in a rewarding, team-oriented environment that offers the opportunity to learn a unique oncology specialty within a supportive team. A caregiver in this role will work an 8-hr shift, Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:30am and 4:30pm. No weekend, holiday or on call expectations.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Licensed in Florida as a Registered Pharmacy Technician
  • Ability to communicate with other caregivers and patients in an effective and positive manner
  • Demonstration of emotional control and intelligence in managing work relationships
  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR the National HealthCareer Association (NHA)
  • Must hold an active registration through the Florida Board of Pharmacy (FBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
  • If certified but current status with the Florida Board of Pharmacy (FBOP) is Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee it is required to update registration status to a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the FBOP within six months of hire.
  • A status as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with FBOP does not qualify for this role.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior IV or sterile compounding

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
