The Pharmacy Technician – Medication Access is primarily a bedside-focused role, with caregivers spending significant time delivering medications directly to patients. Caregivers will also support pharmacy operations as needed, including filling prescriptions, assisting patients at checkout, answering phones, and managing inventory. This position involves frequent walking throughout the hospital and provides a combination of patient-facing service and pharmacy operations. A caregiver in this role will work five, eight-hour shifts from Monday to Friday, 8:45am to 5:15pm or 7:45am to 4:15pm with 4-5 weekend shifts required at Main Campus.

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED
Upon hire, registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy is required.
Candidate must be eligible for Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy.
Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician is required within 6 months.
Minimum six months related pharmacy experience.
Successful completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program may substitute for the required work experience.

Nice To Haves

Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is preferred at time of hire.
CPhT through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required within 18 months.
Experience dealing with third party insurance and prior authorization process
Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program

Responsibilities

Communicate directly with patients and caregivers while performing technical functions within the assigned work area to ensure timely and accurate procurement of prescriptions and documentation within the electronic medical record when required.
Identify potential medication-related access problems and work with patients and the multi-disciplinary team to solve these problems in an efficient and patient-centered manner.
Coordinate education, bedside medication delivery, and medication payment.
Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure a seamless medication-related procurement process for patients.
Work with the pharmacy leadership teams to identify areas of opportunity for improved patient experience.
Assist manager in creating, implementing and monitoring quality control programs in assigned area.
Conduct third party prior authorization requests when needed.
Monitor program performance, including patient volumes served and patient experience indicators, serving as a valued resource to identify discharge prescription coverage issues and assist in their resolution.
Complete medication histories or other transitional care activities as assigned per location.
