Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required.
Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with state of Maryland.
Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required.
Two (2) years of experience in pharmacy, medical billing, insurance verification, or a related field. One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of experience
Maintains continuing education requirements

Responsibilities

Process medication prior authorization requests and patient assistance program applications.
Collaborate with providers to obtain required clinical documentation.
Communicate with insurance companies and pharmaceutical manufacturers regarding coverage and authorization requirements.
Review requests for compliance with insurance and manufacturer guidelines.
Document all authorization and patient assistance activities in the medical record.
Coordinate with pharmacy staff to facilitate timely dispensing of approved medications.
Educate patients and providers on authorization and assistance program processes.
Investigate and resolve authorization denials and delays.
Support continuous process improvement initiatives to enhance patient satisfaction and workflow efficiency.
